How to Reverse Tether an Android Smartphone or Tablet to Your PC

Typically, people tether their laptops to their Android phones, using the phone�s data connection to get online from anywhere. But you may also want to �reverse tether,� sharing your PC�s Internet connection with an Android phone or tablet.

There are a variety of ways to do this. You could use a Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth � or even reverse-tether entirely over a wired USB cable. It�s useful when your computer has an Internet connection, but your phone doesn�t.

Method 1: via (WiFi hotspot)

We can do reverse tether by making the laptop as a WiFi hotspot. mHotspot is free software which helps us to turn a laptop into the WiFi hotspot. mHotspot simplifies this reverse tethering process.

You can connect up to 10 devices to the WiFi hotspot. Also, you can see the network usage and connected devices details within the mhotspot.

Prerequisites:

• WiFi functionality in laptop or PC

• mHotspot installed on laptop or PC [ mHotspot] download

Method 2:via (USB Cable)

Here, we will do reverse tethering without any software. USB Internet is a built-in option which is available in specific model devices (I have Micromax mobile and it has this option).

If your device has this option, then you can use this option to reverse tether. This method works on both rooted and non-rooted devices.
  
Prerequisites:

• USB Cable

Steps

• Connect Android to the laptop via USB cable.

• Go to Settings in your Android phone.

• Under Wireless & networks, you can find the option of �USB Internet�. Tap it (you can only able to enable this option if you�ve connected devices via USB).

• Choose your operating system.

• Click Next. Click on �Done� button.
   
  
  
  You can see that the devices are connected and you can see a new adapter (Local Area Connection 2) on your computer. To see new adapter, go to �Run command�(Shortcut: Windows key + R), type ncpa.cpl and press enter.
  
  However, we can�t get an internet connection? Why? Because we�ve not enabled the internet connection sharing yet. Let�s check it out the steps to do that.
  
  
• Click on �Properties� of internet connection that you want to share (Open Run, type ncpa.cpl, right click on the internet connection and choose Properties).
  
• Navigate to Sharing tab.
• Click on the first option and choose the new adapter (Local Area Connection 2) from the drop-down list. Click on �OK� button.

 

 That�s it. Now, you can see that the PC internet is shared with your Android via USB internet option.

Method 3: [For Rooted Android Device Only]

 

Prerequisites

• USB cable

• Android reverse tethering tool

• Computer with Windows OS

Steps

• Enable the USB debugging on Android.

• Connect Android to the laptop via USB cable.

• Download the Android reverse tethering tool from here.

• Extract it and open the androidtool.exe.

• Your device is selected already in the tool. If it already hasn�t selected, click on �refresh� button and select the device from the drop-down list.

• Click on check DNS button and select DNS from the drop down list.

• Navigate to the �Tools� tab.

• Click on �Install hack� button.
  
  The tool will install hack connectivity service module and other required apps in the Android mobile. If you�ve latest Xposed framework, then you can tap �no� for the confirmation message. Make sure to provide the administrator privileges when prompted.
• After installation, open -notifications- area and activate the module (Alternatively, you can activate the Xposed module by going to �Modules� section of the Xposed framework).
• Reboot your phone.
• After reboot, head over to the hack connectivity service (You can find the icon in the app drawer).
• Now, click on the following buttons in order
  
  
  Wifi
  
  
  Activate

• Click on �Connect� button in the Android reverse tethering tool.

That�s it. Your computer internet is successfully shared with the Android device.
You can try any method you wish. I recommend you to go with �Method 1� because it is so easy to setup.
